Some weddings just feel so dreamy, and TJ and Shaelen's barn wedding in Oregon at Aspen Meadows was exactly that—a perfect blend of Western charm and luxury. Aspen Meadows features rolling mountains, a sleek black barn, and mature Aspen trees, which helped bring this day to life. The venue's vibe created a stunning and inviting environment.
Beauty isn't the only thing that makes Aspen Meadows unique; it's the sense of community it fosters. Guests could bring travel trailers or set up tents, turning the wedding into a full-on weekend getaway where everyone could celebrate late into the night, safe and sound. This venue is just an hour and a half from Walla Walla and feels like an escape while still incredibly convenient. It's a perfect space to transform a wedding day into an unforgettable experience.
A Little Backstory
I’ve known TJ’s family for as long as I can remember. His sister was my cousin’s best friend, and we’d spend countless afternoons running through their pastures, laughing and playing without a care in the world. TJ was always part of that picture, a familiar face in a cherished memory. Fast forward to 2020, when I first met Shaelen while photographing my very first wedding. Shaelen was a bridesmaid for my friend Morgan—and little did we know that just a few months later, TJ and Shaelen would start their love story. Four years later, as I watched Morgan stand by Shaelen’s side as a bridesmaid, the full-circle moment hit me hard. I cried more times than I’d like to admit that day.
Being part of TJ and Shaelen’s journey, from capturing their story before they were engaged to celebrating their wedding day, has been another adventure, like friends just hanging out. And those kinds of relationships are the best.
Beautiful weather graced their early September wedding in the mountains of Eastern Oregon. Warm, golden sunlight and a crisp, cool evening as the sun fell behind the mountain tops.
TJ & Shaelen's Barn Wedding in Oregon at Aspen Meadows
Shaelen ensured her wedding was filled with thoughtful moments, including a twist on the traditional bouquet toss (thanks Tik-Tok). Instead of tossing it, she surprised her mom by dedicating her bouquet to her, leaving everyone in tears. A private moment by the fire pit with her mom, stepdad, and little sister added more intimacy to the evening. They shared speeches away from the crowd, creating a space for raw and tender emotions.
The father-daughter dance was another standout—Shaelen and her stepdad danced to ‘She Ain’t My Blood, but She’s My Girl,’ a song that brought a wave of emotion through the barn (or maybe it was dust?). Later in the evening, TJ’s dad stole the show on the dance floor, tie wrapped around his head, bringing endless energy and laughter to the night.
For me, this reception felt like coming home. Being from the same area as TJ and Shaelen, I recognized many familiar faces among the guests, making the evening feel more like a celebration with family than work. It was one of the most fun and heartfelt receptions I’ve had the privilege to capture.
Pro tip: A Q-tip is a bride’s best friend! Shaelen kept one handy to dab away tears without ruining her makeup and even offered TJ one during their first look.
