I can't stop dreaming about this maternity session at Blue Mountain Lavender Farm in Washington. Sonja picked a dress that made her pop in the photos, and it just blended perfectly with the surroundings, letting the lavender fields enhance their session. The sun's warmth comes through when I look at these pictures, and you can see the love these two have for their baby boy.

SONJA AND JUAN’S LAVENDER FARM MATERNITY SESSION

I attended school with Juan and Sonya. Some of my fondest memories involve Juan. We were always good friends, and we laughed about how he would cheat off of me in our Freshman science class throughout the year. This maternity session meant a lot to me because of the friendship Juan and I shared in high school and even middle school. They've been together since high school and are the ultimate power couple. We jokingly say they have golden retriever (Juan) and black cat (Sonya) personalities.

Sonya prefers simple and "sad beige" vibes for their photos, and this location was just right for that. It also holds some special meaning because it's where they had their bridal shower the previous year, making it sentimental to come back and capture their journey at the Lavender Farm as they awaited their first baby.

WHEN TO TAKE MATERNITY PHOTOS

Okay, let's dive into the optimal timing for scheduling your maternity session, as it's consistently the top question I receive. I often recommend expecting mothers to plan their maternity sessions between the 30th and 36th weeks of gestation. This timeframe balances showcasing the beautiful baby bump and ensures mom's comfort during the session. Around this period, the belly is typically well-defined, and you’ll likely still feel comfortable enough to enjoy the photo shoot. It’s a sweet spot where your pregnancy glow is prominent, resulting in memorable photos in which you feel good, all while allowing for flexibility for those “just in case” situations.
