Cass and Joseph’s rainy engagement photos at Lake Wenatchee began the way many mountain days do—cold air, low clouds, and mist settling over the water. At first, it was just enough rain to notice, but by the end of the session, that mist turned into a full-on downpour.

These are the days I love most, because they ask you to let go of perfection. Rain has a way of doing that. It strips away expectations and replaces them with real laughter, movement, and connection. There’s no performing for the camera when the weather takes the lead. You either resist it, or you step into it together. Cass and Joseph didn’t hesitate. They laughed through the cold, danced, and trusted the moment completely. The rain became part of the experience, shaping the story.

Leaning in instead of waiting it out changed everything. What could have felt uncomfortable turned into something memorable. It became a pause before the rush of wedding planning, a chance to slow down and be together. Days like this don’t just make beautiful photos; they become memories you carry forward, reminding you that joy doesn’t require perfect conditions, just a willingness to show up side by side.

A Full-Circle Love Story

Some love stories begin, pause, wander, and find their way home again. Cass and Joseph met in preschool. At four years old, there was already a quiet fondness between them. Life, of course, had other plans. Cass moved away, time passed, and like many childhood connections, theirs slipped gently into the background.

Years later, Joseph found her again, this time on Facebook in 2011. What followed was a long-distance relationship during their freshman year of high school, the kind that asks a lot of two kids without cars. Eventually, they grew apart. Cass built her life as a working city girl. Joseph went off to college, then into farming.

Then came the night that changed everything. A few beers and a drive down a back road, Joseph asked Cass for a dance. Three months later, she moved in, and they haven’t looked back since. Watching them dance again was a full-circle kind of magic.

Rainy Engagement Photos on the Lake Before the Wedding Rush

Cass had been quietly following my work for nearly four years before this session. She found me when she secretly started dreaming up her wedding (which still makes me smile). Trust like that is never lost on me.

Throughout the session, Cass kept telling me I was making her dreams come true. And yet, there they were, standing in the cold, rain pouring down, clothes soaked. They were absolute rockstars. The weather kept changing, yet still, they chose joy and fun. I remember telling them that days like this are the ones you hold onto. A chance to be fully present together, to create a memory rooted in movement, laughter, and love. Something real to carry with them through the beautiful chaos of wedding planning.

Cass and Joseph’s life together is built on that same kind of intention. From farming dates in tractors with dinner and beer, to Sunday brewery trips, Mariners games, rodeos, camping, and family BBQs, there is joy in the everyday for them. Their wedding vision is a reflection of it all. Timeless, modern, rustic, and deeply grounded in both heritage. They’re embracing an indigenous cowboy aesthetic with western semi-formal attire, earthy elegance, and traditions that carry meaning. Joseph, who is Colville, and Cass, who is Nez Perce and Yakama, are weaving their identities into a celebration that honors where they come from.

This session was about honoring where they’ve been, celebrating where they are, and creating a moment, rain and all, that they’ll return to long after the dress is hung and the boots are worn in.
